In the story, Aang is a 112-year-old little monk who comes from the Air Nomads, namely the human race who has the ability to control air. Aang has a bald head as a characteristic of a monk from the Air Nomads.[10] On his head is a blue arrow-shaped tattoo, which symbolizes that he is skilled at controlling air. His parents are unknown. It is only known that he came from the Southern Air Temple and was cared for by a monk named Gyatso. He has the title "Avatar," that is, a human incarnation of a planetary spirit (Aang's residence), who is able to control the four elements and bring peace to earth.
According to the story, Aang is 12 years old, but after falling asleep in an ice floe for 100 years, he appears as a 112-year-old child, with no physical characteristics indicating that he is over 100 years old.[10] Aang has friends named Katara, Sokka, Toph (who appears in the second season of Avatar), and two pets named Momo and Appa. Together with his friends, Aang goes on an adventure to be able to master the four elements to defeat the Fire Lord and bring back peace on earth.
